Case Study: YENOM (The FIQ Project)

About the organisation

YENOM is a financial literacy education provider founded by Amanda di Medici, an experienced vocational trainer with a background in Law, Business, and Adult Education. With a mission to empower people through independent, accessible financial education, YENOM partners with professionals to support communities across all walks of life — from high schools to aged care. Their work focuses on helping individuals regain control of their finances and improve their overall wellbeing.

The need

YENOM identified a growing need to improve financial literacy across diverse communities, particularly for individuals facing new or complex financial responsibilities—such as young adults, parents, or those recovering from financial hardship. Many lacked the confidence and practical skills to manage money effectively. To address this, the client aimed to deliver an accessible, engaging course that would empower participants to take control of their finances, understand key concepts like budgeting, credit, and goal-setting, and build lasting financial capability. The target audience included individuals at all life stages seeking greater financial independence and wellbeing.

The learning solution

To meet the need for accessible and engaging financial literacy education, we designed an interactive eLearning module that guides learners through essential financial concepts in a relatable and empowering way. The course features custom-designed avatars – Jaxon, Cleo, Carlos, and Imogen – our “Finance Navigators,” who each represent different life stages and financial challenges. Learners support each character in making informed decisions, reinforcing real-world application and reflective learning.

The module incorporates scenario-based learning, downloadable templates for budgeting and goal-setting, inbuilt quizzes to test financial literacy and identify money styles, and practical tools that help learners track progress and build confidence.

Key topics include:

  • budgeting
  • understanding credit
  • financial goal-setting
  • managing hardship
  • recognising financial scams

We collaborated closely with subject matter expert Amanda – an accredited vocational trainer and founder of YENOM – through a co-design process that involved reviewing the existing financial literacy content and identifying opportunities for greater interactivity, clarity, and learner engagement. Feedback loops ensured the content remained community-focused, inclusive, and grounded in real-life financial situations. The result is a solution that empowers individuals to take control of their money, while fostering empathy and insight through the journeys of our Finance Navigators.

The outcome

The course has had a powerful impact, equipping learners with the tools, confidence, and motivation to take control of their finances. By engaging with relatable characters and real-life scenarios, participants developed a deeper understanding of money management and felt more empowered to set financial goals, create budgets, and make informed decisions.

For the organisation, the course strengthened YENOM’s mission to deliver high-quality financial literacy education across diverse communities. The refreshed approach – using storytelling, interactivity, and practical tools – has enhanced learner engagement and broadened the course’s reach. It has also positioned YENOM as a trusted partner in supporting financial wellbeing through education, community, and guidance.
