About The Client
EnergyAustralia is one of Australia’s largest energy companies, generating and retailing electricity and gas to millions of homes and businesses across the country. With a large and diverse workforce operating across power stations, contact centres, and corporate offices, EnergyAustralia has a genuine commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of its people — a commitment that goes well beyond hard hats and incident reports.
The Challenge
Workplace safety has long been understood through a physical lens — hazards you can see, risks you can measure, incidents you can count. But the reality of safety in a modern workplace is broader than that. Psychosocial hazards — the factors in how work is designed, managed, and experienced that can harm psychological health — are just as real, just as serious, and in many workplaces, far less visible.
EnergyAustralia had existing training covering both physical safety and psychosocial hazards, but the two sat in separate modules with no connecting thread. Learners moved through compliance content without a clear picture of how physical and psychological safety belong to the same story. The training needed to evolve — into something cohesive, engaging, and genuinely useful for employees across every part of the business.
The Learning Solution
Hungry Minds partnered with EnergyAustralia to bring two existing modules together into a single, seamless 30-minute experience built in Chameleon Creator — one that would challenge learners to think about safety in a broader, more human way.
The design centres on a simple but powerful reframe: safety isn’t just about protecting your body. It’s about protecting your mind too. That idea runs through every element of the module — from the opening hook through to the final reflection — creating a coherent narrative rather than a checklist of compliance content.
Branded animations and storytelling bring the content to life in a way that static slides never could. Learners aren’t told what psychosocial hazards look like — they see them play out through characters in recognisable workplace situations, then make decisions about how to respond. Interactive scenarios place learners at the centre of the action, building practical judgement rather than passive awareness. On-screen text input reflections invite learners to connect the content to their own experience, making the learning feel personal and relevant rather than generic and forgettable.
The tone throughout is warm and supportive — deliberately so. A module about psychosocial safety needs to model the kind of psychological safety it’s trying to build. Learners are met with encouragement, not judgment, and given clear, practical guidance on how to recognise, report, and prevent hazards in ways that feel achievable in their everyday roles.
The Outcome
The result is a single, cohesive module that does what two separate courses never quite managed: it gives EnergyAustralia’s people a unified understanding of workplace safety — physical and psychosocial — and the confidence to act on it.
For an organisation operating under both the national WHS framework and, for its Victorian workforce, the new Occupational Health and Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations 2025, having training that specifically addresses psychosocial hazards is no longer just good practice. It’s a legal obligation. This module helps EnergyAustralia demonstrate that commitment — to regulators, to employees, and to the kind of workplace culture they’re working to build.
