About the organisation

Modern Custodian (formerly Acknowledge This!), founded by Rhys Paddick, delivers high-impact training that blends Aboriginal education with expert facilitation. The Acknowledge This! program helps individuals and organisations to ditch the script and deliver meaningful, authentic Acknowledgements of Country.

The need

Many people give an Acknowledgment of Country without truly understanding why. Too often, Acknowledgements of Country are read from a script with little understanding of their meaning or purpose. Modern Custodian wanted to transform their popular Acknowledge This! face-to-face workshop into an eLearning experience that could reach more people while maintaining its depth and authenticity. The goal: build cultural awareness, spark reflection, and help learners deliver Acknowledgements of Country with confidence, connection, and heart.

The learning solution

After launching the original eLearning in 2022, Modern Custodian returned to us in 2025 to take it up a notch. The brief: modernise the learning, align it with their rebrand, and deepen the experience.

We reimagined the course using Chameleon Creator, moving away from the original Articulate Rise 360 build. The upgrade allowed for richer interactivity, stronger visuals, and a more flexible, responsive design, while staying true to the thoughtful, inclusive tone Modern Custodian is known for.

The refreshed Acknowledge This! experience guides learners through a four-step framework to build their own personal Acknowledgement. It’s reflective, practical, and guided by Rhys, whose video-based narration sets a conversational tone throughout.

Key features include:

  • A guided structure to help learners create an authentic Acknowledgement of Country
  • Reflection questions connecting learners to people, place, and purpose
  • Downloadable tools to support learning beyond the course
  • A rebranded design, aligned with Modern Custodian’s updated look and feel

The outcome

Acknowledge This! has empowered thousands of learners to speak from the heart, whether in meetings, at events, or in everyday interactions.

The new version is more than a visual refresh. It’s a stronger, smarter, and more culturally aligned learning experience, showing what’s possible when content, tech, and purpose come together.

The impact goes beyond words: workplaces are shifting, leaders are stepping up, teams feel safer, and people are finding their voice.

“Acknowledge This! has always been about helping people speak from the heart. Hungry Minds honoured that purpose beautifully, turning the course into an experience that feels just as alive online as it does in the room.”

– Rhys Paddick, founder of Modern Custodian
