Objective: Translate an existing face-to-face workshop into a practical, self-paced eLearning course for workplaces.
About the client
Challenge DV delivers education and awareness programs designed to prevent domestic and family violence through conversation, reflection, and practical action. Their training encourages learners to recognise harmful behaviours, challenge attitudes, and create safer, more respectful communities and workplaces. Through powerful storytelling and facilitated discussions, Challenge DV helps participants move beyond awareness into meaningful behaviour change.
The need
Challenge DV’s face-to-face training was already creating powerful “aha!” moments that shifted perspectives and sparked important conversations. The challenge was translating that same emotional impact, depth, and authenticity into a digital learning experience that could reach more people.
The goal was to thoughtfully redesign the experience so learners could engage with complex and confronting topics in a way that felt reflective, accessible, and genuinely meaningful. Challenge DV wanted an online course that maintained the heart of the original program while making learning more flexible, scalable, and engaging.
The goal was to build learners’ confidence, capability, and understanding, while challenging assumptions and encouraging reflective, affirming practice. Importantly, the program needed to meet learners where they were – from highly engaged students through to those who felt reluctant or unsure – and create a safe, evidence-based pathway toward more inclusive healthcare practices.
The learning solution
The project began with a deep dive into the face-to-face workshop to uncover the moments that truly resonated with learners. The goosebump stories. The conversations that challenged thinking. The activities that encouraged reflection and behavioural change. From there, we reimagined those moments for digital delivery without losing the humanity and emotional connection that made the training so impactful.
Working closely with the Challenge DV team, we co-designed a learning experience that balanced storytelling, reflection, and practical action. The course was intentionally structured to feel immersive rather than instructional, encouraging learners to pause, reflect, and connect the content to real-world situations.
Key features included:
- Interactive scenarios and reflective learning activities
- Story-driven content designed to build empathy and awareness
- Downloadable action-based resources to encourage continued conversations beyond the course
- A modern, accessible visual design focused on learner engagement and retention
- SCORM-ready delivery for seamless LMS integration
The final solution transformed a powerful in-person workshop into a flexible digital learning experience that was shorter, sharper, and easier to access, while still delivering meaningful impact.
The outcome
The result was a thoughtful and engaging eLearning experience that helped Challenge DV expand the reach of their training without compromising its emotional depth or purpose.
The course gives more learners access to important conversations around domestic and family violence, while creating space for reflection, empathy, and practical action. Designed to feel human rather than corporate, the learning experience encourages participants to challenge assumptions, build awareness, and continue conversations beyond the screen.
More than a visual refresh, the project demonstrated how purposeful instructional design can transform sensitive subject matter into meaningful digital learning that genuinely connects with people.
As part of the project, Hungry Minds also contributed significant pro bono work to help ensure the final experience delivered the level of care, quality, and impact the subject matter deserved.
