The Need
Essential Energy is in the final stages of Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) negotiations and required a short, engaging eLearning course to support the rollout of the new EBA. The course needed to inform team members of the benefits of the new agreement, while also serving as a retention tool for existing staff and an attraction tool for potential employees.

A key requirement was keeping the course concise—ideally 10–15 minutes for core content—with optional ‘deep dive’ sections for those seeking more detail. The target audience includes all Essential Energy employees across the organisation.
The learning solution
To meet Essential Energy’s learning needs, we designed a 20-minute eLearning module using the Articulate 360 suite, which aligns with their existing systems and ensures easy content management without the need for additional licences. We began the process with a detailed kick-off and discovery session, where we clarified learning objectives, identified core topics, explored tone and language, and agreed on a visual style that aligned with Essential Energy’s branding.
We worked collaboratively with internal stakeholders to map out key content areas including: what an Enterprise Agreement (EA) is, how it differs from policy documents, what the Fair Work Act and National Employment Standards (NES) are, who is covered, the role of unions in bargaining, the structure of the EA, the renegotiation timeline, and internal/external support available.
A key feature of the solution is a custom-designed, animated explainer video with voiceover to introduce the EA and the purpose of the module. The module also includes interactive elements, knowledge checks, and a final quiz to assess understanding and ensure completion.
The course was designed with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards in mind. The collaborative design process ensured the content was relevant, engaging, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of Essential Energy’s workforce.
