The Client
CheckUP is a Queensland-based not-for-profit working to create healthier communities and reduce health inequities across Australia. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, their Access for All program exists to address a problem that sits quietly at the intersection of health and disability: that for many people with disability, accessing healthcare is itself a barrier.
CheckUP works across health services, workforce development, and online training — and their commitment to building a genuinely inclusive health system is reflected in every aspect of how Access for All was designed, evaluated, and grown.

The Challenge
People with disability experience significant and well-documented barriers when accessing healthcare — from physical environments to communication styles to systemic assumptions. Most health providers want to do better. But awareness alone doesn’t shift practice, and a once-off training tick-box doesn’t build the kind of genuine understanding that changes how a clinician, administrator, or receptionist shows up with every patient.
CheckUP needed an eLearning program that could reach health professionals across every discipline — GPs, nurses, allied health, admin and reception staff, students — and build real capability, not just compliance. It needed to earn CPD points across 35+ health professions, meet WCAG accessibility standards, and work at scale across the country. And it needed to do all of that without losing the human stories at its centre.
The Learning Solution
Hungry Minds first partnered with CheckUP in 2021 to design and build Access for All from the ground up — and the relationship hasn’t stopped since.
The program is built across eight modules in Articulate Rise 360, covering the barriers people with disability face in health settings, legislative obligations, person-centred care strategies, and practical tools for making services more accessible. A companion reflective workbook sits alongside the eLearning, giving learners space to apply the content to their own practice — because real behaviour change happens in the gap between knowing and doing.
To make complex concepts land, we produced a suite of chalkboard explainer videos in Doodly — an approach that breaks down information in a warm, accessible way without ever feeling like a lecture. Custom infographics designed in Figma translate data and frameworks into visuals that are both compelling and genuinely useful. Branching scenarios put learners in realistic healthcare interactions, inviting them to make decisions and understand consequences from multiple perspectives — including the perspective of the person with disability themselves.
Given the diversity of the audience, accessibility wasn’t an optional add-on. The program is fully WCAG-accessible, ensuring the program works for every learner regardless of ability. The course is accredited by the AMA CPD Home, supports health accreditation standards, and earns CPD points across more than 35 health professions — giving organisations a credible, recognised professional development pathway.
The program has since been through a complete refresh — updating content, visuals, and interactions to reflect current best practice and keep the learning experience contemporary.
Hungry Minds worked with CheckUP to tailor the content for Queensland Health’s workforce, extending the reach of the program into one of Australia’s largest public health systems.

The Outcome
Access for All has been independently evaluated by the University of Melbourne — and the results are clear. The program produces a statistically significant improvement in disability awareness, and 97% of respondents reported an intention to improve the accessibility of their health service after completing the course.
The program is now available nationally, has been adopted by Queensland Health, and continues to grow. For the health professionals who complete it, it’s a CPD activity that genuinely does what it promises: builds the kind of awareness that changes practice.
The relationship between Hungry Minds and CheckUP has grown right alongside it — from a single build in 2021 to an ongoing partnership spanning a full refresh, a state health system adaptation, and a shared commitment to making healthcare more accessible for everyone who needs it.
