Case Study: Horizon Power

About the organisation

Horizon Power is a state government-owned utility company in Western Australia. They provide safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity to over 100,000 residents and 10,000 businesses across some of the most remote and regional areas of the state.

The need

 

Horizon Power needed to enhance their project management capabilities to address confusion and inefficiencies within their existing processes. The primary drivers of this need were the introduction of new technology platforms and an evolving project management methodology.  

 

The target audience included project managers, project support officers, project directors, program managers, and business owners. The aim was to create a structured and cohesive body of knowledge that would simplify complex processes, provide clear guidance, and support ongoing professional development through a mix of formal and informal learning strategies​. 

 

The learning solution

Stage one of this large project resulted in the creation of a SharePoint Hub that provided a place for the target audience across Horizon Power to gather.  

This hub was launched with three pages to get things started: A home page that introduced the Hub and the learning approach, as well as two subpages. One that hosted as series of Planview Tutorials, teaching the workforce how to use their Project Management Software, and the second, a page dedicated to FAQs.  

Over the coming year, we will continue to work with Horizon Power to build out stage two of this project, that will include the creation of assets and learning experiences that will deep dive into their project management methodology. 

 
 

The outcome

The comprehensive learning solution is expected to have a significant positive impact on Horizon Power. It will streamline project management processes, making them more efficient and easier to navigate, which will enhance overall productivity and project outcomes. Employees are anticipated to feel more supported, capable, and confident in their roles due to the structured and engaging learning experience. 

The success of this project has lead to further collaborations with Horizon Power.
